He based his canoe designs on Old Town Canoes in Maine, so his canoes are essentially Maine Guide Canoes -- very stable with wide, flat bottoms -- all trimmed in Phillipine (Luan) mahogany. His shop burned down in 1970 and he lost most of his moulds. He continued building for five more years with a limited number of models for sale. "The Penticton Canoe" (a 16' Chestnut Ogilvy) now has rebuilt ends (pictured above). We are now repairing two rotted rib-tops and replacing four rotted cant ribs. The seats are being re-caned while all of the corroded carriage bolts are being replaced with bronze.
