He based his canoe designs on Old Town Canoes in Maine, so his canoes are essentially Maine Guide Canoes -- very stable with wide, flat bottoms -- all trimmed in Phillipine (Luan) mahogany. His shop burned down in 1970 and he lost most of his moulds. He continued building for five more years with a limited number of models for sale. The 16' Chestnut Cruiser from North Vancouver is getting five new ribs installed. Meanwhile, the 18' Greenwood from Richmond, BC has had five new ribs installed and is now having a full set of half-ribs installed to re-inforce the bottom of the canoe (pictured above).
